Bradley Killinger is the CEO and president of Sapience Analytics. He has a passion for helping customers succeed, and has been an operator in several large companies. He has been working with Sapience for over four years. He started working with Sapience because he had this question that all operators have: how can you leverage data to drive a more efficient operation?
Bradley started his career in the outsourcing world. He used to sell very large deals and move big development shops or infrastructure operations to offshore centers. But it was very hard to quantify all that information and the work that was being done.
When Bradley started with Sapience, he was fascinated that they were able to understand how people spend their day? Where do they spend their time? What's the output that they're actually generating? And how can you do that? He believes that as a company, if you understood that data, you are able to understand how to remove a lot of roadblocks and empower your employees. This is why Sapience was very interesting to him as a company when he first started.
According to Bradley, the world is moving into data-driven smart decisions. We are seeing this massive transformation across the workforce. Especially with people starting to work remotely and in hybrid models.
Bradley believes that you can do effective hybrid work. Hybrid work is here to stay. Individuals are able to do their jobs. They are willing to put in the time. It might be a little different hours than what we expected. Employees are getting something where they feel like they have transparency. They can juggle other facets of their life much better.
However, there is an element of collaboration that is hard to do. The next generation of hybrid model is going to involve specific companies. The ones enabling their workers with the proper sets of technologiesnd tools to be successful. It will involve a mind shift in terms of managers and them trusting their employees. Companies who are getting creative around how they create culture and collaboration. As humans we like contact, we like to be able to build those personal relationships that sometimes are hard to do through the lens of technology.
About productivity and wellbeing, Bradley advises a lot of fellow CEOs to move to the hybrid environment. But to do that, you have to be willing to try different ways to connect. CEOs have to plan company habits that are not related to work. These company habits will help employees connect together.CEOs and managers also need to learn the importance of celebrating victories together.
Companies need to think about what is not working properly. They need to see what are the types of enabling tools that they need to provide their employees to continue to be successful.
According to Bradley, effective collaboration has to start with trust. Simplifying the communication channels is also key. Also, removing notifications that create a fake sense of emergency. Many companies struggle with removing distractions. Mostly because they don't have the data to understand the impact of distractions.
To better your team, you need to improve your work model according to Bradley. Employees are working too many hours. So companies need to do a better job of clearing the deck for them instead of expecting them to clear the deck. There's been an over use of resources, but a lot of that is wasteful work. Companies need to find the areas of waste and clear it.
Bradley believes that there is going to be a next generation of companies who embrace work/life balance. These people are going to get the best of all worlds. You can still have structure, you can still have deadlines. You can still get the productivity, but you can also foster a great culture and great trust in your company.
When it comes to his routine to improve his wellbeing, Bradley says that he is not a morning person. He would rather work till 2:00 in morning than get up early. He has learned that our brains need a reboot so that we can be creative and challenge ourselves. It is also important to have a few moments in our day to we turn-off everything related to work and focus on ourselves. We can do that through working out or reading a book. It started for him with 60 minutes a day when he would go on a walk. He found that his creative energies and his general big-picture thinking was so much better. This helped him with rebooting his brain and in the end improving his wellbeing.
